Instead of taking long moments before every roll to wonder if this should be a DC 15 or a DC 16 challenge (or what that granular of a distinction even means), instead of having to keep track of both what modifiers are in play ('it's foggy') and their magnitude ('it's -3 to all ranged attacks foggy'), assigning difficulty is done on a simple, chunky 1-5 scale, with all other mitigating factors represented by Setback dice. The actual gameplay at the actual table is as simple as grabbing handfuls of dice and counting up the hits and misses. What I really like about FFG Star Wars, which I've started playing with two separate groups here in the last couple of months (Star Wars fever is beginning to ramp up, trendspotters!), is that it's a game that has tons of mechanical options and fiddly bits for players to sink their teeth into - skills to rank up, talent trees to climb, long lists of equipment to pore over and obsess over between sessions ('oh MAN if we just get a thousand creds next session I can totally pimp my speeder!') - but all the math homework is completely offloaded onto the players to give them something to do during their downtime.
